The Happy Box CSA Program



Unfortunately for right now in 2012 we have canceled the Organic Energy Exchange!

After running it every Saturday for 5 months in 2012, it proved that there was not enough interest in participating. We still believe that it is a great idea, but we simply can’t afford to do all prep. work before no one show up!

So please e-mail us if you desire to participate in similar event and if enough people are interested we will begin doing it again. Please e-mail us in what part of the energy exchange you would like to participate. For right now- everyone is welcome for a free tour every Saturday from 3pm. to 5pm., but only if you call Milan -937-668-2425- a day or two in advance, so he can expect you. We are still open to any visitors at any time without calling, but don’t expect if you don’t call in advance that somebody will be there to pay you attention and show you around, since the organic farm work is very demanding and we are really busy most of the time.

Organic Energy Exchange

The Happy Box Organic Energy Exchange is opportunity to visit the farm and learn how your organic food is grown there. It is completely optional and available to members of the Happy Box Program only, their friends, family members, or potential future members that consider joining the Program.  It runs from May till September every Saturday from 1.30 pm till 6 pm.

It involves different activities like hoeing, u-picking, raw food demonstrations and farm tour.

Hoeing: It starts at 2pm and continues till 4 pm. It is organized event and we ask everybody who wants to participate to be at the farm few minutes earlier since the field that needs to be hoed may be 5-10 minutes walking distance away. Light and sharp professional hoes are provided. The organic grower will be there hoeing as well available to answer any questions about growing vegetables organically. Hoeing is a great way to enjoy conversations while doing something very meaningful for the plants to grow healthy and strong.

Raw food demonstrations: Raw sweet fruit/greens smoothie and raw sweet fruit ice-creams demonstrations will be held immediately after the hoeing from 4pm till 4.30pm. More different raw food demonstration will be provided after the farm tour from 5.30 till 6pm using some of the produce that may be collected during the farm tour. The demonstrations include serving the food to the visitors. During these demonstrations we will share our long experience of easy and quickly preparing raw tasty and healthy food by using different equipment like blenders and juicers.

U-picking.  Some Saturdays when we have a lot of extra produce we have u-picking opportunities to members of the Happy Box Program only. What crops are available for u-picking and prices will be posted on our weekly news-letter. You picking can be done any time on Saturday from 1.30pm till 6.00pm. Participant of the hoeing event if not choosing the free tour and raw food demonstrations, can use 10$ credit for u-picking.

Farm tour: It starts at 4.30 pm and continues till 5.30 pm. The participants ride a van and visit the different organic fields and greenhouses observing the different organic produce that is grown there. The grower is driving the van and is available to answer any questions about the different crops growing.

Cost: The cost for the farm tour and raw food demonstrations is 10$ per person (14 years or older, kids admission is free). However, if you participate in the hoeing event for 2 hours your farm tour and raw food demonstration will be free. The cost for u-picking is different depending on what and how much is picked. A person who help us hoeing for 2 hours can use 10$ credit for u-picking. If somebody is interested in hoeing every Saturday, we may consider crediting his monthly Happy Box bill accordingly.
